How Can Social Media Become the Beehive?
Let us imagine how social media, which includes apps, screens, likes, and notifications, will transform itself into a beehive with thousands of hardworking bees inside?
All bees in this beehive will be social media users. Some bees will create posts, other bees will leave comments to posts, some other bees will share posts, and at last, some bees will watch all the action.
It sounds ridiculous but it is the truth, as it makes sense when we start thinking a little bit deeper.
There is similarity between the beehive and social media.
In particular, constant interaction plays a major role in both.
Thus, how can we define social media if it is a beehive?
1. Everyone Would Have Their Place in the Hive Like in Social Media
Let us assume that you have logged into your preferred social network, but instead of tons of photos, you find yourself surrounded by thousands of bees in a gigantic hive.
Each of these bees has some unique qualities.
Firstly, there would be numerous very active bees constantly updating their statuses. There would also be some rather lazy bees rarely logging into their profiles. Some bees would have millions of followers, while other bees would simply observe how everything around them is going.
Exactly like now, each bee will find their place in the hive.
The most active bees would continually generate new material. They will bring news, videos, pictures and whatever else from one side of the hive to another.
Exactly like now, you would easily recognize these bees because of the number of their posts.
2. Bees Will Create Posts, Comments and React
Let’s assume that now a bee will create a post.
It will go to one cell in the honeycomb and tell “See what I have”.
And in no time there will be many bees coming due to this post.
One bee will react to the post with hearts. Another will leave a comment and the third one will like and share the post with his friends.
So, very soon there will be a big crowd of bees around the same post.
This is how the buzz works on the social networks. The single post brings many participants.
Some bees will write useful comments. Others will only react and use emojis.
But always there will be one bee who will write a comment to everything.
3. Viral Content Is Likely to Travel Fast Throughout the Hive
What do you think happens when a bee discovers something extremely interesting?
They share it.
After a while, another bee will carry it away, then share it with someone else.
It doesn’t take long for everybody in the hive to discover it.
This is how viral content travels in the beehive ecosystem.
Videos, news, stories or ideas could be shared between the bees until all the bees are aware of them.
The faster bees will likely be the ones spreading the content.
Social media content is not necessarily limited to its place of origin. In some cases, it may make its way into several other communities before ever reaching the community that created it.
The bees who share the content fastest are going to set the trends within the hive.
4. There Would Be Influencer Bees
Each social network has followers that would grab people's attention within the social network.
It goes without saying that our beehive would also have them.
These would be the influencer bees.
It would not be hard for us to imagine a bee coming to the heart of the hive with tiny sunglasses while being followed by many other bees.
Whatever she says would be instantly checked.
Influential bees would tell other bees what to talk about, which video to watch, what to buy, and even what to put up on the wall.
Today an influential bee could decide that the honey of a particular type is great and the whole colony would go for it.
Tomorrow she would create another trend and soon enough all bees in the hive would follow.
It is amusing to watch bees' attempts to become influencers.
5. Notifications Will Always Buzz
If the social media turns into a beehive, then the notifications will surely turn out to be the loudest element of it all.
Every time when you receive a like, comment, follow, or share, there comes one more bee towards you making a buzzing noise:
"BUZZ! BUZZ!"
You take out your cell phone.
Notification.
Buzz!
Somebody liked your old post.
Buzz!
Somebody replied to your comment.
Buzz!
Someone whom you don’t follow made a new video.
Surely now you want that the bees leave you alone.
The notification bee surely will become the most annoying bee in the beehive.
6. There Would Also Be Silent Bees
Everybody who uses social media is not a poster.
There are many people who just browse social media.
There would also be such silent bees in the beehive that we have imagined for our social media website.
They would move around the beehive silently, watching posts, reading comments, viewing videos, and catching up with the latest trends, without making any comment themselves.
They might never have written a single post or comment, but still, they would be very important for the beehive.
They would be aware of all the activities happening inside the beehive, but they would remain completely invisible.
Such bees would be the professional social media browsers.
7. The Hive Would Become Rather Chaotic At Times
The social media hive was not always calm.
At some point of time, there would be an altercation between the two bees.
It would happen because in the beginning one bee would comment. Another bee would respond to it and another one would do the same. Before long, a number of bees would start swarming one particular comment just to prove their point.
Chaos would grow in the hive.
Some bees would try to cool things down, whereas some bees would join the fray out of sheer curiosity.
Sometimes, like on social media, a small discussion would turn into the most heated debate in the entire hive.
8. The Beehive Will Never Sleep
The next commonality is the hive will never sleep at any time.
In the morning, the afternoon, the evening, and even during midnight, there will always be bees who will be engaging in interaction and posting.
The moment one batch of bees falls asleep, there will be another batch somewhere else who will be wide awake.
There will always be fresh posts, engagement, trends, and notifications.
Just as it is with the present-day social networking sites, there will always be activity going on somewhere.
Conclusion
If the social network was a beehive, then everybody would be a buzzing bee there.
When some are posting something, other people would comment, others would share their posts, some would set new trends, some silent bees would observe all the things happening, and finally, there would be notification bees who will ensure that nobody would find some peace of mind.
The beehive would be very noisy, crowded and sometimes even chaotic.
That is why social networks are so fascinating.
Many millions of people are always communicating with each other, expressing their views on certain matters, replying to posts and starting conversations. The thing is that we all live in a kind of digital beehive.
The only difference between us and the thousands of bees around us is the sound of their buzzing from our phones.
